Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of the common questions we receive. If you still have questions, please feel free to contact us directly.

What is a Fiduciary Duty?

A fiduciary duty means that we are held to the highest ethical obligation to put your interests ahead of their own compensation. As a Registered Investment Advisor, I have signed a fiduciary oath holding me to this higher ethical standard. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What does Fee-Only financial planner mean?

Tailwind Financial Planning is a Fee-Only financial planning firm. That means we don’t accept commissions, kick-backs, or referral fees from others, and we do not sell financial products. We are paid by our clients for our expertise, advice, and service. This allows us to provide advice that is unbiased and in your best interest always.

What is a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC)?

The CRPC ®  is a graduate-level designation program for financial planners who wish to offer more comprehensive retirement advice to their clients. This training program enables us to focus on our clients’ specific pre- and post-retirement needs, as well as issues related to asset management, long term care and estate planning.

What is Financial Life Planning?

Financial Life Planning is simply financial planning done right. It begins with an exploration of values and life goals before we dive into the details of your finances. As with any good plan, we need to know your destination before chart your financial waypoints.

What is Wealth Management?

Wealth management takes financial planning a few steps further to account for a more complicated financial situation. Wealth management becomes important when you earn equity compensation, stock options, and/or substantial bonus compensation to ensure you appropriately address the asset management, tax, and estate planning strategies to go with this wealth.

Who is your typical client?

Our typical clients are senior military officers, general and flag officers, colonels and captains, who are approaching the end of their military careers or already in the midst of their transition to a civilian career. We’ve walked in their shoes and know first hand the decisions and opportunities they face at this stage of their careers. See more on our Who We Serve page.

Do I need a minimum income or investment assets to work with you?

No. One of the benefits of working with a fee-only financial advisor is being able to get quality financial advice regardless of how much income you have or how much you have to invest.

Do you work with people outside of Florida?

Yes, our services are set up so that clients can easily work with us from any location.

Can you do my taxes?

We develop tax planning strategies with all our clients. Beginning in 2021, we will coordinate the preparation of tax returns for our comprehensive financial planning and wealth planning clients.

Can you help me complete my OGE 278 Form?

Yes, we can help you prepare your disclosure form each year. We can’t make the OGE website any easier to work with, but we can pull all your pertinent financial details and transactions together so it is easy to enter your information.
